Cultivate Self-Compassion
Description
Many of us are lacking in an essential quality for mental and physical wellbeing: self-compassion. We tend to tell ourselves unkind and unhelpful stories about ourselves. We may not even know what exactly the crime is of which we are accusing ourselves, but we know that we do not hold ourselves in high esteem. We may talk to ourselves cruelly, constantly criticizing and judging and blaming ourselves for all sorts of things. We may feel shame, guilt, even hatred towards ourselves.
If our self-talk is negative and self-blaming, we are effectively putting ourselves in a negative trance. We tell ourselves bad things about ourselves all the time, old, unhelpful stories that no longer serve us and that hold us back.
